Sedna, sovereign of the deep.
In astrology, Sedna is often considered a dwarf planet or an object of the inner Oort cloud. Discovered in 2003, it has an extremely eccentric orbit, taking approximately 11,400 Earth years to orbit the Sun
In one of the variations of her myth, she is the mythically betrayed Inuit daughter cast into the sea by her father for refusing an arranged marriage. She clings to his boat, sobbing with him for mercy, but for fear of his own reputation in the community – or to prevent her from having to marry the arranged man – he chops off her fingers and discards her to the dark cold waters. Sedna becomes sovereign of the depths, her echo becomes the whales song, her dismembered digits become the seals and marine creatures.
She represents the unconscious depth of a collective consciousness, the far extremities of what we have suppressed, forgotten and cast out.
