The Solstice Dance
Posted on: June 20, 2025
While preparing for the storytelling offering to the children gathering for Summer Solstice 2025, I read over my favourite solstice tales, and felt inspired to add my own rendition of a good story that would excite and inspire those gathering in circle. I am happy to share here and hopefully will add a few more to these tales of the Wheel of the Year in this fashion.
We opened the space by breathing deeply and feeling our heartbeat, by moving and dancing and with stillness and presence. We connecting to the heart of the Earth by placing our hands on the Earth and reaching our hands up to the sky to connect to the heart of the Sun! If reading with your children you might want to prompt them to do something similar for the Summer Solstice.
THANK YOU to all the beautiful families and friends who gathered with their kids for my first child focused ceremony… many more to come I hope!
The Solstice Dance
Long ago, when the world was young and magic hummed in every leaf and stream, there came a very special Summer Solstice. The air shimmered with anticipation unlike any other, for on this longest day of the year, a celestial event was about to unfold – a cosmic dance between the Heavens and the Earth.
The Sun King, a being of magnificent warmth and radiant light, felt a deep yearning, a heart wish. He had bathed the world in his golden embrace for eons, nurturing life, coaxing blooms from the soil, and painting the skies with colourful hues of dawn and dusk. But on this particular Solstice, his heart swelled with a longing to truly connect with the vibrant essence of the world below.
And down below, deep within the ancient forests and blossoming meadows, stirred the Fairy Queen, the very spirit of Earth. Her gown was spun from emerald moss and dew-kissed rose petals, her crown a delicate circlet of wildflowers. She was the quiet strength of the mountains, the gentle murmur of the rivers, and the vibrant life force that pulsed through every living thing. For centuries, she had felt the Sun King’s benevolent touch, and responded to his light with growth and renewal, but today, she felt a profound pull, a recognition of a kindred spirit.
As the morning of the Solstice dawned, painting the sky with fiery golds and soft lavenders, the Sun King began his majestic ascent from the East. But this time, it was different.
Instead of his usual unwavering path, he paused- swayed slightly, as he felt a gentle tremor rippling through his fiery corona. He paused and felt his heartbeat, a slow, deliberate rhythm echoing the heartbeat of the Earth.
Below, the Fairy Queen emerged from her hidden glade, drawn by an invisible force. She extended her hand, not in greeting, but in an unspoken invitation.
And in that moment, as the Sun reached his zenith, he responded.
He began to twirl, a breathtaking spectacle of light.
His rays, usually straight and true, now bent and curled, forming spirals of pure energy. He spun with such joyous freedom that the light around him seemed to ripple, expanding and contracting, creating an ethereal halo. The patterns his light waves made in the sky were like the spirals of ferns, and snail shells. Radiating patterns just like the ones found in the centre of sun flowers shone out across the skies, creating a design of light netting across the sky.
In perfect synchronicity, the Fairy Queen began to dance upon the Earth. Her movements were fluid and graceful, mirroring the Sun’s every sway. She wove through the meadows, her bare feet barely touching the ground, leaving trails of shimmering stardust. As the Sun danced, she spun, embodying the Earth’s boundless energy. When he dipped, she bowed, a gesture of profound reverence. When he expanded, she reached out her arms, as if drawing in all his life-giving warmth. A loving hug.
The trees swayed in unison, from their roots to their leaves they were filled with joy and rustled a gentle melody to harmonise with their movements. The flowers turned their faces, not just towards the light, but towards the spectacle of their beautiful dance. Animals paused in their tracks, mesmerised by the celestial ballet unfolding above and below. The ground was glowing, the Sun Lines of Gold were being revealed as they radiated out from the Fairy Queens exquisite movements. (Sun Lines are ley lines or Dragon Lines of the Earth which carry the life giving power across the planet, like our veins in our bodies)
The very air hummed resonating with this palpable energy, a feeling of pure harmony.
For what felt like an eternity, the Sun King and the Fairy Queen danced, displaying the profound connection between the Heavens and the Earth. Their movements were not choreographed but flowed from an innate understanding, a deep respect for each other’s essence.
Placing their hand on their Heart they paused and lingered in that elevated feeling.
As the Sun King began his descent, setting to the West, casting long, golden shadows across the land, their dance softened. He glowed with a tender warmth, and the Fairy Queen, filled with an overflowing joy, radiated a gentle peace.
As his last golden ray touched the horizon, she curtsied deeply, and he, in a final, majestic flourish, seemed to wink before disappearing below the edge of the world.
From that day forward, the Summer Solstice became not just the longest day, but a day of quiet celebration, a remembrance of the profound unity between Light and Life. And if you listen very carefully, on that magical day, you might still hear the faint echoes of the music that played from the trees as the Sun King and the Fairy Queen, the Celestial Light and the Earth’s Vibrant Essence, danced in perfect harmony. Placing your hand on your heart, let your heartbeat guide you in loving creation!
