Summer Solstice
☀️ Sun → 0° ♋︎ Cancer | Cardinal Water
Occurring on 21st June 2026
And the Wheel Turns as you Remember You Belong to the Dance
Summer Solstice marks one of the great turning points in the Wheel of the Year. The longest day in the Northern Hemisphere, it is the moment when the Sun appears to stand still before beginning its gradual descent toward the darker half of the year.
This Solar Pause invites us to do the same.
To stop for a moment and recognise the great dance that is continually unfolding between Heaven and Earth, Spirit and Form, Consciousness and Creation.
The ancients understood that the Solstice was far more than an astronomical event. It was a celebration of Life itself. A recognition of the sacred relationship between the Sun and the Earth.

The Sacred Dance of Sun and Earth
Reflecting on, and drawing from the children’s story I wrote last year for the solstice storytelling event : The Sun King and EarthFairy Queen https://12thspace.com/blog/the-solstice-dance/
The Sun pours forth its radiance without hesitation. Day after day it offers warmth, light and the animating spark that sustains life. The Earth receives this celestial offering and responds with abundance. Forests emerge. Flowers bloom. Fruit ripens. Rivers flow. Life multiplies and expresses itself through countless forms.
Together they participate in a sacred dance.
- The Earth adorned in her fullness.
- The Sun at the height of his radiance.
Or we can perhaps view it the other way too.
- The Sun at the height of her radiance.
- The Earth flexed in his full vigour.

The Earth receives Light, nourishes and births life, yet she is also mountains, stone and the unwavering strength that holds us all.
The Sun illuminates, penetrates and animates creation, yet she too radiates warmth, nurturance and the life-giving abundance upon which all things depend.
You are in all. The relationship of Spirit and Light or Earth and Body… find yourself in it.
Solstice is not about assigning roles, but witnessing relationship itself. The eternal dance between complementary forces that continually meet, create and transform one another.
The great celebration of Life expressing itself through Life. This is of you too.
Perhaps this is why Solstice has always carried such joy. Not because humanity stands at the centre of the story, but because we are invited to remember that we belong within it.
We are participants in this sacred exchange.
Children of Earth and Sun.
The breath in our lungs, the blood in our veins, the emotions that move through our hearts and the dreams that call us forward all arise from this great relationship.

Entering Cancer Season
As the Sun enters Cancer, Cardinal Water, our awareness is drawn toward the wisdom of feeling, belonging, nurturance and emotional intelligence. Cancer reminds us that life is not simply something to be understood through the mind. It is something to be felt, experienced and lived through the body, through relationship, through memory and through the heart.
Represented by the Crab, Cancer teaches us about the dance between vulnerability and protection. Beneath the hard shell lies a soft and delicate interior. We all develop protective casings through our experiences. We learn how to shield ourselves from disappointment, grief, rejection and loss. Yet the invitation of Cancer is not to harden further. It is to create enough safety that the heart may once again emerge.
Symbols of Renewal and Transformation
The Scarab Beetle, associated with Cancer in Egyptian traditions, offers another reflection. A symbol of rebirth and renewal, it reminds us that consciousness continually seeks expression through form. What appears to be ending is often transforming. What appears to be lost is often preparing to return in a new expression.

Even the Ladybird, long associated with blessings, protection and good fortune – and the sacred heart of the Mother, linked with The Virgin Mary – it carries this teaching. Beneath the scarlet shell are wings waiting to unfold. A reminder that joy, wonder and the innocence of the sacred child remain alive within us, waiting for the conditions that allow them to emerge.

A Reflection for the Heart
Perhaps this Solstice you might pause and reflect upon a time when your heart swelled with the creative force of life. A moment when love poured through you effortlessly. A moment when you felt deeply connected to another. A creation, a project, a child, a dream or a simple act of kindness that emerged from the sincerity of your heart.
Remember what it felt like to be fully engaged in the experience of being alive.
Acknowledge too, the journey that brought you here.
- The grief that softened you.
- The anger that revealed what mattered.
- The disappointments that refined you.
- The fears that invited courage.
- The shame that asked to be met with compassion.
All of it belongs.
All of it has shaped the unique expression of Life moving through you.
Summer Solstice is not only a celebration of what has been achieved. It is a celebration of consciousness embodied. It is the recognition that despite everything life has asked of you, your heart remains capable of loving, creating, caring and dreaming.

Tending Your Inner Waters
As we move into Cancer Season we are invited to tend to our inner waters. Become aware of the root of your emotional expressions, where old memories continue to shape present reactions.
Honour the feelings that have been asking for your attention. Practice empathy with yourself and with others. And allow your emotions to move rather than become trapped beneath the protective shell.
After all, feelings are simply Energy in Motion. The colours through which life experiences itself. FEEL IT.
We all emerge from the same life-giving waters. Though we may never know the rivers another has travelled, the storms they have weathered or the depths they have crossed, eventually every river finds its way back to the Great Ocean.
Remember this when you encounter another.
Perhaps your kindness becomes the ripple of love they had forgotten.
Perhaps your compassion helps guide someone home.
Perhaps your presence becomes the reminder that they too belong.
Caring for the Living Earth
And perhaps this Solstice offers another invitation: Not simply to celebrate the Earth, but to tend to her.
To recognise that the bride of creation is not separate from us.
The forests, rivers, oceans and fields are not resources to be consumed but living expressions of the same life force moving through our own bodies.
- How are you tending the garden?
- How are you caring for the Earth that nourishes you?
- How are you participating in the dance between Spirit and Creation?
- How are you allowing consciousness to flower through the landscape of your own life?

A Solstice Blessing
As the Sun stands still, may you stand still too.
Lift your face to the light.
Place your hand upon your heart.
Feel your heartbeat echoing the rhythm of the Earth beneath your feet.
Pause long enough to recognise that you are not separate from this dance. You are one of its great expressions.

May you recognise the Light that has carried you this far.
May you rejoice in the fullness of your humanity.
May the tears that need to fall be honoured.
May the heart that longs to love be liberated.
May the protective shell soften where it no longer serves.
May your wings remember how to open.
May the dust and ash that weigh heavily upon the heart be washed away.
And may the unique expression of Life moving through you continue to bloom in service to the greater dance between Cosmic Light and Grounded Earth.
❤️ Solstice Blessings ❤️
May we remember that we belong to this living world.
And may the dance continue.
